Unveiled at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-type ushered
in a new era of sports car design and engineering. Beautiful body
lines, unrivaled performance, and racing lineage combined to make
the E-Type an immediate sensation. With its surprisingly affordable
price, it was an unrivaled sales success, a motoring icon adored by
collectors and enthusiasts for more than half a century.
Independent front and rear suspension, disc brakes all around, and
Jaguar's legendary twin-cam inline six-cylinder engine were among
the many aspects contributing to the allure. Regarded as the most
beautiful production car of all time, the E-Type remains an
automotive icon of design, engineering, and speed.
According to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, this
E-Type was produced 25 January 1962, and delivered to its first
owner, a US serviceman stationed in Germany, on 11 April of that
year sporting black on black livery and left-hand drive steering.
Just a year later, on 19 April 1963, the E-Type was purchased by
the aunt in the same family that continues ownership to this
day!
In 2004, the Jaguar underwent a comprehensive refurbishment. Work
consisted of repairing the body and repainting it in the factory
shade of Black, retrimming the interior in black leather, and
rebuilding the matching numbers engine and transmission. Additional
work included refinishing the chrome wire wheels, rebuilding the
carburetors, overhauling the brakes, suspension, and gauges, and
replacing the lighting and wiring harness. Completed in 2005, the
work totaled over $85,000 reflected in restoration receipts
accompanying the car. Placed in dry storage, the Jaguar was shipped
to California in 2012 to be retained by the nephew of the long-term
owner.
This pedigreed E-Type is accompanied by a service manual,
maintenance chart, copies of restoration records and its Heritage
Trust Certificate, the original 1963 title, tools, jack, knock-off
hammer, and the original chassis plate. A must have for any
collection, the E-Type's many positive qualities have enshrined it
as one of the true automotive greats. With its clean, soft lines
and engaging six-cylinder howl, few cars are able to stack up
against the Jaguar magic. A cherished example, in over 60 years of
family ownership and limited miles since restoration, this E-Type
boasts performance, beauty, and desirability, perfectly
encompassing the "Swinging Sixties."
